Tippet to Leader
The choice of a knot for attaching a tippet to a leader can be completely different for the freshwater fly fishing enthusiast to that selected by the saltwater fly fishing enthusiast. Line classes and thicknesses will play a crucial role in knot selection. I do urge both parties not to consider the ‘Multi Overhand Knot’ commonly, incorrectly referred to by many fly fishermen as the ‘Surgeons Knot’. It is a poor selection, fraught with danger, both through slippage and reduction of line strength. Poor selection of tippet to leader knot can also expose your intention to the fish as well as provide poor deliver of the fly.

The Double Centauri knot is an excellent knot for joining lines with similar and slight variations in line diameter, this makes it a particularly versatile line to line knot.
The Double fisherman's knot is simply an improvement on the Fisherman's knot. It employs two double overhand knots to join two lines to one another.
The Double Grapevine Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Grapevine Knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Double Grinner Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Grinner Knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Double Multiple Fisherman's Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Multiple Fisherman's Knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred li
The Double Nail knot provides a strong connection between two lines of similar or different diameters.
The Double Paragun Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Uni knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Reverse Twist Blood Knot is an effective knot for joining two lines and follows the same principle of the blood knot. It works well with monofilament, light lines and some super lines.
This is a method of connecting a class tippet to a shock tippet without the need for a double.
The surgeon's knot is not a preferred line joining knot, although fly fisherman and some anglers use it from time to time. All too often confused with the multi overhand knot.
