Fly Line to Leader
Fly line is expensive and the need for a knot that doesn’t require the cutting of fly line is often a high priority to the fly fisherman. The nail knot is probably the most commonly used knot for tying leader to fly line. All fly fishermen should take the time to learn the ‘Nail-less Nail Knot’ demonstrated on marinews.com. It is identical to that tied with a tube. When Fly fishing, one must be mindful of the need for the knot to pass through rod guides, and its gripping power.

The Albright knot is a quick and easy method of attaching cordage or lighter line to heavier line. It is used where the lines vary significantly in diameter size.
The Blood Knot is used for joining two lines of similar diameter. It is suitable for lines up to 30kg (65lb) breaking strain, however the wider the difference in line diameter the weaker the knots strength.
The Cove knot is a simplistic method of joining two lines and is probably one of the oldest forms of doing this, still in use today. The Cove knot is useful in that it can be tied quickly and can tie lines of different thickness.
The Double Blood Knot is used for joining two lines of similar diameter. It is a common method for attaching monofilament lines of similar diameter and is relatively simple to tie.
The Double Centauri knot is an excellent knot for joining lines with similar and slight variations in line diameter, this makes it a particularly versatile line to line knot.
The Double Four Fold Blood Knot is used for joining two lines of similar diameter. It is a common method for attaching monofilament lines of similar diameter and is relatively simple to tie.
The Double Grapevine Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Grapevine Knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Double Grinner Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Grinner Knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Double Hangman's Noose, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Uni knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Double Multiple Fisherman's Knot, which is known by many other names worldwide is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Multiple Fisherman's Knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred li
The Double Nail knot provides a strong connection between two lines of similar or different diameters.
The Double Uni knot, which is known by many other names worldwide, is a good nylon line to line joining knot. Many who constantly use the Uni knot as a terminal knot will most likely opt for this knot as their preferred line joining knot.
The Doubled Multi-strand Overhand knot is often used by fly fishermen for building multi hook rigs and attaching droppers. It is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a Surgeons knot.
This is a simple method of attaching fly line to hollow braid. It's not dissimilar to that used by game fishermen when attaching a leader to braid.
The Improved Blood Knot is a variation of the standard blood knot; used when lines that are of dissimilar thickness require joining.
The Nail knot is probably the most used leader to fly line knot fly fishermen employ. Its advantage is in that if attaching a tippet or leader to fly line, the knot can be positioned right at the very end of the expensive fly line, leaving nothing to trim
The Nail less Nail knot is a useful knot for joining a thinner line to a thicker line or leader. In the case of fly fishing, this would nominally be backing line to mainline or fly line to leader.
The Needle Knot is an extension of the Nail Knot, however considerable more secure.
The Simple Simon Double is a quick and easy method of attaching cordage or lighter line to heavier line. It is used where the lines vary significantly in diameter size.
Slim Beauty is a connection for connecting line to a heavier leader.
The split leader provides a fast and effective method of creating dual leaders from which terminal tackle can be attached.
The Water knot is a simplistic method of joining two lines and is probably one of the oldest forms of doing this, still in use today.
