Tying a loop or tying a double in braided fishing line amounts to basically the same thing. Loops in fishing line are primarily used attach terminal tackle or as a point from which a leader can be attached. Doubles are used for the same purpose while providing the mental addition of added strength and security. In reality, this is arguably not really so, however the practice is extensively used and does aid in the connection of super-lines to the working end of sportfishing lines. The fisherman needs to bear in mind that once one side of a double breaks, the dynamics of the knot either end change so dramatically, its holding and strength rate reduces to a point of uselessness! Most doubles, will not save you the loss of a fish due to wear from the body of that fish and consequently line breakage!
